The Gospel of Matthew as we have it in Greek was not the first Gospel Matthew wrote; the first Gospel he wrote was in Hebrew, but the revised Gospel in Greek became the best loved, and because it was a bridge between the Old and New Testaments was early on placed first in the lists of the Gospels. As well, it seemed the most complete beginning with Jesus' birth and ending with his resurrection and commission to the disciples to make disciples wherever they went.
